Leander is Ready: Reflecting on the LW+P Launch Party

I couldn’t let another day pass without saying a massive thank you to everyone who joined us for the Leander Women+ for Progress (LW+P) launch party. We celebrated International Women’s Day at Slacker’s Brewery in the best way possible: by building community.

I'll be honest—when the co-founders met on February 1st, planning a full launch just five weeks later felt like a "lofty" goal. We hoped for 30–50 people. Instead, over 70 of you showed up to help us co-create an evening that was nothing short of inspirational.

It’s clear: the Leander area is ready to do the work, support our fellow Democrats, and help turn Texas blue.

What is LW+P?

For those who couldn't make it, LW+P is a women-led (and all genders-invited!) organization dedicated to building a visible, vocal, and connected community in Leander. We believe that local engagement is the antidote to national anxiety.

  • A Safe Space: A judgment-free environment to express your values and find "your people."

  • Intentional Connection: We bridge the gap between neighbors and local candidates, making advocacy feel accessible and even fun.

  • The Power of "We": We celebrate our city’s diversity and work to ensure every resident feels reflected in our leadership.

  • Community First: We are neighbors first. Whether it’s supporting local shelters or hosting family-friendly meetups, we invest in the place we call home.

The Power of the Network: Who We Featured

One of the most powerful parts of the evening was seeing the incredible organizations and candidates already doing the work. If you’re looking for a way to plug in, here are the people and groups we featured:

Local Organizations to Support:

  • Leander SPCA: Our local partners in animal welfare.

  • New Hope Resistance: For those ready to hit the pavement and protest.

  • Leander PRIDE: Building an inclusive community for our LGBTQ+ neighbors.

  • Leander Grupos Latinos: Connecting and empowering our Latino community.

  • Leander Democrats Together, Far Northwest Democrats & Western Wilco Dems: The boots on the ground for door knocking and phone banking.

  • Girls Who Code & Williamson County Young Democrats: Empowering the next generation of leaders.

Candidates for November:Erin Block running for Williamson County Clerk, Shweta Padmanabha for Cedar Park City Council, Leslie Booker for District Judge of the 512th and Heather Jefts for Williamson County Judge
