One progressives view on borders

We watch the news, we hear the soundbites, “illegals are invading our great land”.

Have you ever wondered to yourself why was I so lucky to be born on the right side of the border, or thought, I am so thankful I am not “them”, the “illegals”?

For the majority of those seeking asylum, or crossing illegally, they are running from extreme famine, violence, sexual violence, political oppression and even genocide.

For others it’s as simple as the desire for a better future, education, a chance to have what we call the American dream.

My question is why is it only our dream?

Why are we more worthy of those comforts and what I think should be the rights of all people, simply by our place of birth?

Do you think this is the world a god that is loving and merciful intended for us?

I don’t. I don’t know the answer to solve the world’s problems, but I think we are failing the great test of humanity.
